David Hermel, MD, is a hematologist and medical oncologist who specializes in malignant hematology with an interest in the use of novel therapies, such as cellular immunotherapy and bone marrow transplantation, for the treatment of blood and immune system disorders. As a member of the Scripps Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, he works with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to provide hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to his patients. David completed his undergraduate training in Biochemistry at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He entered the Medical Scientist Training Program (M.D., Ph.D.) at the University of California San Diego and carried out his Ph.D. research with Dr. Mark Kamps where he became interested in the problems that arise during white blood cell development. David did his internship and residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital as well as a year as a Chief Medical Resident in the Department of Internal Medicine.
