Take Action

Federal budget negotiations are already under way.

April 15 marks the 30-Day anniversary of the enactment of the 57% cut to CDMRP including the elimination of all funding to Bone Marrow Failure Research.

Every medical research program at CDMRP directly impacts the health and lives of the U.S. military, their families, veterans, and the public. Research breakthroughs have led to new clinical trials, new drug products, and novel procedures that are making a difference in the everyday lives of patients and families.

Join other Patients and Families in Urging your Members of Congress to restore these research programs, especially those affecting Bone Marrow Failure Diseases.

#restoreCDMRP

The CDMRP is one of the most effective and efficient medical research programs in the country:
•    Just 5.62% overhead, among the lowest of all federal research agencies
•    High-risk, high-reward science tailored to urgent health needs
•    Collaborative, avoiding duplication with NIH and VA
•    Responsive, adapting yearly to meet emerging challenges

Its impact is undeniable:

•    56 FDA-approved products, including 11 cancer drugs
•    A rapid blood test to detect traumatic brain injury
•    600+ clinical trials for cutting-edge drugs and vaccines
•    Treatments for burns, toxic exposure, and addiction

Tips for What to Say

Here is language you may use when you contact your Senators or Representative:

Dear Senator First Name Last Name, or Representative First Name Last Name,

My name is First Name Last Name, and I am a patient, family member, health professional, researcher with name of disease.

As your constituent, I'm writing to urge you to fully restore funding for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP). Earlier this year, this life-saving program was cut by 57%, threatening vital research that helps our service members, veterans, and everyday Americans.

In particular, the funding that is directed toward finding cures for diseases that affect the lives of many veterans and active-duty service personnel, including bone marrow failure diseases like aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), was completely eliminated by the passage of the Continuing Resolution.

Current and recent Armed Forces Members deserve this research to save their lives, which too often is caused by exposures during their service to our Country. This research then benefits all patients who are faced with these life-threatening diseases.

(Optional) - Add how aplastic anemia, MDS, or PNH has affected your life.

Sincerely,
Your name and address
