Over the last 24 years, AA&MDSIF has awarded nearly $4 million in research grants thanks to gifts from patients, families, and friends. These grants have helped advance the understanding and treatment of aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), leading to the development of new therapeutic approaches to treat these diseases.
Each year the AA&MDSIF invites researchers to apply for two-year grants of $30,000 per year to test new ideas and to explore other research leads. The applications are ranked according to merit by a distinguished panel of research scientists and funded by the generosity of families and patients.
Established investigators and new investigators in bone marrow bone marrow: The soft, spongy tissue inside most bones. Blood cells are formed in the bone marrow. disease can apply for the awards. Second-year funding is contingent upon progress in the first year.

With funding provided by the Patricia and Vincent Geczik Legacy Gift to Fund PNH Research, AA&MDSIF has launched a new targeted funding mechanism, and is requesting proposals for research grant projects on topics related to PNH.
Successful applicants can be funded up to $100,000 for one year, or $250,000 for a two year period. Currently, AA&MDSIF anticipates awarding one (1) grant per year. Proposals will be accepted beginning in May of 2015, and applications must be received by July 15, 2015. Funding will begin by October, 2015.
Summer Fellowship Grants
The AA&MDSIF Summer Fellowship Program will offer medical students and graduate students, in the biological sciences, the opportunity to engage in research under the sponsorship and supervision of an established principal investigator who directs a laboratory dedicated, at least in part, to the investigation of bone marrow failure at a US academic, medical or research institution.
