Giving Tuesday 2015

I am a registered nurse and have spent the last 11 years working in a ten bed outpatient infusion center. Over the past decade, my colleagues and I have cared for many aplastic anemia: (ay-PLASS-tik uh-NEE_mee-uh) A rare and serious condition in which the bone marrow fails to make enough blood cells - red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The term aplastic is a Greek word meaning not to form. Anemia is a condition that happens when red blood cell count is low. Most… and MDS patients.  We nurses build close relationships with not only the patients, but their families, due to their frequent transfusions of blood and platelets.

I have been a nurse for thirty two years and this has been one of the most rewarding departments I have worked in. Our patients become an extended family and it is very fulfilling to see the difference we make in their lives.  With each drop of blood, we watch their symptoms disappear and their positive attitudes are contagious
