Dr. Rachel Salit is a hematology oncologist oncologist: (on-KAH-luh-jist) A doctor who specializes in the treatment and prevention of cancer. who seeks ways to improve outcomes for patients undergoing cord blood transplants. Her research concentrates on adults who are receiving reduced-intensity conditioning regimens. Dr. Salit is looking at ways to reduce infections, prevent graft-vs.-host disease, decrease relapse and improve long-term quality of life. She is also trying to extend cord blood as a donor source to patients with certain slow-growing blood cancers such as myelofibrosis.
