Graduated in Medicine (1997) and PhD in Clinical Medicine (2003) from the Ribeirão Preto Medical School of the University of São Paulo (FMRP-USP) and medical residency in Hematology and Hemotherapy (2001) from the Hospital das Clinicas of FMRP-USP. He did postdoctoral studies at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, where he also worked as a Staff Scientist at the Hematology Branch until 2011. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine at FMRP-USP, coordinator of the Hematology and Program discipline Graduate Program in Oncology, Stem Cells: Cells in the body that develop into other cells. There are two main sources of stem cells. Embryonic stem cells come from human embryos and are used in medical research.
