Dr. de Latour was able to spend 18 months in a Bone Marrow Failure: A condition that occurs when the bone marrow stops making enough healthy blood cells. The most common of these rare diseases are aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). Bone marrow failure can be acquired (begin any time in life) or can be… research lab at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, thanks in part to a grant from AA&MDSIF in 2009. Dr. de Latour will be applying for a professorship, and is crediting his research in bone marrow failure disease with giving him the ability to do so. The time that he spent researching in the United States that AA&MDSIF provided funding for was a big part of her research, and many of the collaborations he opened during his time at the NIH are still very active. AA&MDSIF’s grant has been related to four of Dr. de Latour’s publications in the journals Blood and Haematologica.
