Joan Latsko received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Carlow University in 2010. She also has a BSN and an MSN from Carlow College, and she received an MSN as a family nurse practitioner from LaRoche College. Currently, Joan is the Director of Medical Oncology at Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, West Virgina. She previously was a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Coordinator at the Bone Marrow: The soft, spongy tissue inside most bones. Blood cells are formed in the bone marrow. Transplant, Hematology and Oncology Program at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and Cancer Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Joan lectures on myelodysplastic syndromes: (my-eh-lo-diss-PLASS-tik SIN-dromez) A group of disorders where the bone marrow does not work well, and the bone marrow cells fail to make enough healthy blood cells. Myelo refers to the bone marrow. Dysplastic means abnormal growth or development. People with MDS have low blood cell count for at… (MDS) and other relevant hematology disorders at local, state, and national conferences. She has amassed many speaking engagements including local support groups, hospital based oncology classes, undergraduate/graduate nursing programs, professional nursing conferences, as well as professional medical conferences. She has been a primary and secondary author in several publications on MDS generated by The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and Cancer Institute.

Ms. Latsko is active in the national Oncology Nursing Society, as well as the local, Greater Pittsburgh Chapter, currently serving as a Director-at-Large. She has recently been honored by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Association with the Pennsylvania State Award for Excellence, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital with an Employee of the Month Award, the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Nursing Cameos of Caring Advanced Practice Award, and induction into The Western Pennsylvania Hospital's Academy of Excellence in Nursing.
