Kevin Lyons-Tarr called the telephonic board meeting to order at approximately 7:04 PM EDT.

A quorum of the Board was present with nine of eleven Board members present.

There are a couple of edits needed before we approve the minutes of April 24 meeting. Correct the spelling of Neil's last name and summarize the comments of the continued discussion on foundation name change related to the merger. Motion to accept minutes with discussed changes. Passed.

The Executive Director has notified the Board he is moving forward with his plans to retire mid-year 2015.  The Board will resume the Executive Director Succession/Search process. The Search Committee had narrowed down the potential search firms to a couple of organizations. The Search Committee will call a meeting to regroup and will be prepared to discuss the search in detail at the in-face meeting in November. This will allow the selected search firm to begin the search at the first of the year.

Financial Update – July Statements

Both accounts have done well even with our conservative approach.  The Board needs to consider re-balancing our investment account due to the increase in equities.

We are pleased to announce the awarding of six grants, two each for AA, PNH and MDS. This is in great part to the PNH Foundation donations.

We are involved with a couple of PNH surveys including the how, why and where patients were diagnosed and treated. We are updating the PNH website to Drupel 7. The AAMDS site will be updated next year.

Dana-Farber will be conducting a study for MDS patients who served in Vietnam and were exposed to Agent Orange. This is an important step to determine if there are differences between those who developed MDS after exposure to Agent Orange versus those who were not exposed to Agent Orange.

Preliminary Thoughts on 2015 Plans

We are well into planning cycle. We are pushing to better promote our organization and services, better use the data we have in our database, and from web and media activity. We are focusing on individual giving and special events.

Next meeting is in Rockville, MD on Nov 15, 2014. Meeting adjourned by 8:15PM
