Finding a Clinical Trial

If you are considering joining a clinical trial, the first step is to talk with your doctor. He or she can help you decide if being in a study is a good option for you. Also, your doctor may already know of a research studies that are currently going on.


To find a clinical trial, the best place to go is, a service of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The studies listed on this site are supported by the U.S. government and by private institutions and agencies. You will be able to look up research studies in the U.S. and around the world.

On this Web site you will learn:

  • The purpose of the study
  • Who may participate
  • Where the study is being held
  • Who to contact about the study

To help you more easily find a clinical trial, we have created the customized search links below. These will give you a current listing of all the open studies either in the United States or anywhere in the world. Once you initiate the search, you will see a listing of clinical trials. Click on a specific study title to see detailed information, including the purpose of the study, eligibility requirements, and contact information for the study coordinator.

You can also use the advanced search function on the database to further refine your search. When using the advanced search feature, it is important to use the complete disease name; i.e., "aplastic anemia," "myelodysplastic syndromes" or "paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria." You can use the advanced search to find a study in your state, look for a certain treatment or search for a specific phase of a study. Other search criteria are also available.
