Hemolysis in PNH: Understanding the Cause, Symptoms and Treatment
Hemolysis, or the breaking apart and destruction of red blood cells by the immune system, is a hallmark of PNH. It is also the cause of most of the symptoms and complications experienced by patients, including low blood cell counts, blood clots, muscle spasms, and kidney disease. During this webinar, Dr. Araten will help you understand exactly why hemolysis happens in PNH patients. He will discuss the most current thinking on why hemolysis causes certain symptoms and long-term complications. He will then discuss the treatment options that patients can use to reduce hemolysis, including the use of complement inhibitors and stem cell transplantation. Finally, he will review his recommendations about which therapy may be best for which patients. Plenty of time will be left for your questions at the end of the session.
