Brandi Wright and Vicky Frank met at Froedtert while receiving treatment for their aplastic anemia.  Through this experience, the two women became friends. After attending the AA&MDSIF Patient and Family Conference in Tampa in October 2011, Brandi became inspired to hold an awareness and fundraising walk in her own hometown of Milwaukee. She asked her friend Vicky to help her plan the event.  And along with the help and support of the Alverno College Student Nurses Association, they planned a walk along the beautiful Alverno College campus in Milwaukee.

Although the day started out with some rain, after registration and pictures, the rain stopped and the sun came out as the walkers began walking. Over 100 walkers, many of them on one of the five walk teams, strolled along the lovely campus of Alverno College.  Along the walk route, signs were posted which provided information about bone marrow failure disease and AA&MDSIF. 

After the walk, light refreshments were served and patients and families could bid on fun silent auction items.

It was a wonderful day of spreading awareness for bone marrow failure disease, raising money for the programs and services of AA&MDSIF to benefit patients and families, and connecting with others. And over $7,000 was raised through this event!

Thank you to the Alverno College Student Nurses Association for their support of the walk. And thank you to the patients, families, and friends of AA&MDSIF who walked together for Hope, Steps & A Cure!
