This FREE one-day MDS conference for patients and their family members is a collaborative effort between the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation (AA&MDSIF) and the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Participants will learn the latest on the diagnosis and treatment of MDS from leading experts in the field. Information on how to optimize your emotional health during all phases of the disease will also be included. Patients will have plenty of time to ask questions of the experts. We strongly encourage you to attend if you or your loved one has been diagnosed with MDS within the last few years.
At the conclusion of this one-day MDS conference, you can expect to have a better understanding of:
- Diagnostic tests and procedures an MDS patient may undergo
- Treatment options currently available to patients with MDS
- The things you or your loved one can do to help maintain emotional health during all phases of the illness
- How to be better prepared to talk to your doctor about MDS and its treatment
When is the conference?
Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 3:45 PM. Registration will begin at 8:00 AM. Breakfast and lunch are complimentary for registrants.

Directions
From the 405 Freeway take the Sunset Boulevard exit EAST. Enter the UCLA campus at Bellagio Drive (right turn). Turn left on De Neve Drive and follow this around to the Sunset Village (SV) parking area on the right. Signs will be posted on campus to direct conference participants to the SV parking area.
Parking
Conference parking is free at the Sunset Village (SV) parking area. This parking area is located under the Covel Commons building. Signage on campus will direct conference participants to the. Parking attendants will be on hand to provide additional parking instructions and direct conference participants to the Grand Horizon Room.

Where can I stay if I would like arrive the night before?
NOTE: Make your hotel reservations as soon as possible. Student move-in for UCLA is the week of Sept. 20th, so rooms at local hotels are likely to fill up. |
If you are coming from out of town or would simply like to arrive the night before and stay locally, there are two hotels we recommend considering:

The negotiated rate for conference participants is $139/night plus 14% tax. Parking is $18/night. The hotel is about 1 ½ miles from the UCLA campus. You must book a room by Sept. 10th to get the guaranteed conference rate. The hotel has a shuttle that can take you to the UCLA campus and runs every ½ hour starting at 7:30 am. The shuttle will bring you back to the hotel but you must request a return ride before leaving hotel in the morning. The negotiated rate for conference participants is $149/room for 1 person and $154/room for 2 people plus 14% tax. Parking is included. A free continental breakfast is provided in the morning and coffee/tea at night. This hotel is just outside the SE corner of the UCLA campus. It is an estimated 15 minute walk to the Covel Commons Building from the hotel. When making a reservation you must tell the hotel you are coming for a conference on the UCLA campus to get the special rates listed above.
