Hope, Steps & A Cure Walk

Hope, Steps & A Cure, a fundraising and awareness walk, will benefit the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation as it provides support and hope to patients with bone marrow failure diseases. Join us & Connie Britton, star of Friday Night Lights, who walks in memory of her dad, Allen Womack

This walk is being organized by Austin bone marrow failure disease patients and their families, including Mia Hamm's family.  The Hamm family is remembering Garrett John Hamm, who died April 16, 1997, following complication from a bone marrow transplant that was necessary due to his 12 year battle with both Aplastic Anemia and MDS.  Garrett was Mia Hamm's brother who inspired her to excel in sports and in life. Other local Aplastic Anemia and MDS patients and families involved in setting up this walk include Monica Fairchild and Carmen Romo de Vivar.

Registration for the Walk will begin at RunTex on Riverside in Austin.  The Walk route will go through scenic nearby Riverside Park.  Prizes for top fundraisers will be given out, courtesy of RunTex Austin and the Mia Hamm Foundation.

Parking for the event will be available at the One Texas Center building (505 Barton Springs Road), located at the corner of South First and Barton Springs Road.  The side entrance to RunTex is located across the street from this parking lot.

• Volunteer during the event 
• Register to walk & recruit walkers (friends, co-workers, neighbors, student groups) to your team.
• Ask your families & friends to sponsor you, collecting donations in person or online through FirstGiving.com
• Set a goal to raise at least $250 (only 10 donations of $25 each) through Firstgiving.com/AAMDS or by turning in contributions at the Walk
• Have fun with us on 4/18/10 as we walk for Hope, Steps & A Cure!
